UniKey Evolves Smart Home Technology with Homogenous Controls
Orlando,Fl (PRWEB) January 05, 2016 -- Many devices in the home have become smart. Monitoring and controlling lights, the garage door, even a coffee pot is now possible from a smartphone. But, no one wants to open twenty or more apps just to check if everything was turned off after leaving home. UniKey, an innovator in smart lock technology, has created a mobile platform that enables users to lock and unlock their doors with a simple touch on the deadbolt. By integrating with leading smart home devices, this simple tap helps users better interact with other home devices and systems. At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, UniKey will be showcasing how just a tap of the finger can lock or unlock a door and create a better smart home experience.
UniKey powers the Kwikset Kevo smart lock, which integrates with the Nest Learning Thermostat, Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats, Ring Video Doorbell and Moto 360 smartwatches. The UniKey smart access platform allows the smart lock to become the gateway to smart home communications. Each time the smart lock is activated, smart home devices that link with the lock are alerted to someone leaving or arriving and primed for reaction.
For example, manually adjusting a thermostat is a chore of the past as well if a Nest or Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat graces the wall of the home. A tap of a finger on the deadbolt to lock the door when heading out in the morning for school or work initiates an active notification. Sent to the user’s smartphone, this message allows thermostat settings to be switched to “away”. The thermostat adjusts accordingly enabling the user to save money on energy bills. When the user or another family member returns home later in the day, the tap of a finger to unlock the deadbolt will trigger another alert. Depending on who unlocks the door, the thermostat will adjust to a preset temperature based on the individual’s preferences.
A home with a UniKey powered smart lock and a Ring Video Doorbell means there is no need to get up to see who rang the bell. After seeing who is at the door from a smartphone video feed, if a guest is welcome, users can tap their smartphone to unlock the UniKey powered Kevo smart lock from nearly anywhere.
Locking and unlocking can also be achieved without even having a smartphone present. Users can enjoy the convenience of going out for a jog without worrying about carrying or stashing their smart phone somewhere. Along with the many conveniences of a Moto 360 smartwatch, such as tracking distance and heart rate, with a UniKey powered smart lock, the Moto 360 can also be used to lock and unlock the door with a tap on the smartwatch screen.
“Imagine what the next evolution of the smart home will be,” said Phil Dumas, UniKey Founder and President. “What if in the future, as we continue to unlock the potential of the smart home, window coverings could open or close and appliances could switch on or off, simply with one touch of a smart lock? With our pioneering technology platform, the possibilities to provide customers with greater convenience and control are endless.”
