Unique Architectural Cut Paper Exhibition Opens in NYC
New York City, (NY) (PRWEB) October 07, 2014 -- This exhibition entitled "Constructions" features more than 20 beautiful white cut paper architectural sculptures by artist Christina Lihan. Presented by Boston Properties, this show is currently running through October 30, 2014. It is in the upper and lower lobbies of the Citigroup Center at 153 East 53rd Street, New York, NY 10022. The highly detailed sculptures on display are of cityscapes, streetscapes, historic monuments, all architectural and industrial subjects. Ms. Lihan cuts and carves layers of all white paper by hand using an X-Acto knife. They are framed in frames only 4" to 5" in depth, but "Christina creates an illusion of hundreds of feet in perspective" says Frederic Julien, an avid collector of her work. One is drawn into a piece she creates, allowing the viewer to explore the place or building through her eyes. Because the pieces are 3 - dimensional, the perspective changes as one looks across the viewing plane. "I'd like to think it is dynamic and not static", states Ms. Lihan. She constructs the details of a beaux arts cornice, exposes the essence of the structure of a skyscraper and depicts a sleek art deco railing all with the precision of a watchmaker. Using no color, each piece comes alive with light and shadows.
Christina Lihan is trained as an architect with a master's degree from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Virginia. She has been creating her unique work for over 6 years as a full-time artist. She has exhibited nationally in galleries in the Wynwood Art District in Miami, at Red Dot and Scope at Art Basel Miami, and in Atlanta where she is represented by Mason Murer Gallery (soon to be Mason Fine Art). Internationally she exhibited with 4 other paper artists in Shanghai at the International Financial Center, and in Moscow as part of a group exhibition on all things paper. Her work is part of collections in Miami, Atlanta, Palm Beach, Washington D.C., San Francisco, NYC, London, Rome, Hong Kong. She won Best in Show at a national competition at the acclaimed Herbert Gertrude Institute of Art in Georgia, and was chosen to lecture on her work at the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, FL. This is her debut solo exhibition in New York City.
