United Theological Seminary Announces Recently Published Faculty Books
Dayton, Ohio (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- United Theological Seminary (United) announces two books recently published by two faculty members.
United’s Academic Dean Dr. David F. Watson and Dr. William Abraham, of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, recently published "Key United Methodist Beliefs" (Abingdon Press), a tool for teaching what it means to be a Wesleyan Christian.
“What we ended up writing was a 10-chapter account of what it means to be a Christian in the Wesleyan tradition,” Dr. Watson said. “Each chapter has study questions and then what is properly called a catechism, which is a question-and-answer format for learning the Christian faith.”
The book discusses the basic beliefs of United Methodist Christianity, Dr. Watson noted.
United’s Associate Professor of Theology and Wesleyan Studies Dr. Jason E. Vickers recently edited "The Cambridge Companion to American Methodism" (Cambridge University Press), which offers a general comprehensive introduction to various forms of American Methodism written from various disciplinary perspectives. It also includes a chapter written by United's President, Dr. Wendy Deichmann.
“Through wise selection of themes and broad recruitment of contributors, Vickers has produced the best single-volume introduction available to the family of Methodist churches in North America," said Randy L. Maddox of Duke Divinity School. "The volume traces both the growth of the movement transplanted from England and its proliferation into multiple strands -- ranging from the earliest distinct African-American churches through the Holiness-focused churches and beyond."
