United Theological Seminary Announces Winners of Third Annual Song- and Hymn-Writing Competition
Dayton, OH (PRWEB) November 14, 2014 -- United Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the winners of its third annual song- and hymn-writing competition, “New Songs and Hymns for Renewal.” In keeping with United’s commitment to spiritual growth and church renewal, the competition called for submissions with themes of personal or church renewal.
“Sometimes the greatest message is delivered through music, and as we seek to win people to Christ we are pleased to cooperate with some of the nation’s most creative musicians,” said Jeremy Winston, competition organizer.
United received a total of more than 40 submissions in three separate categories: New Text and Tune, New Music for Traditional Hymn/Song Text and New Hymn Text for Traditional Hymn Tune.
“We continue to get interest from different parts of the world,” Winston said. “We also received varied styles of music, including traditional hymns and contemporary.”
The 2014 winners are:
Category 1 (New Text and Tune)
“Bread of Heaven” — Daniel Jaquish, Malakoff, TX
Category 2 (New Music for Traditional Hymn/Song Text)
“Just As I Am” — Sherri Hansen, Madison, WI
Category 3 (New Hymn Text for Traditional Hymn Tune)
“Re-Tune Our Lives, O God” by William Pasch, Griffin, GA
United will honor the winners and premiere their compositions during a Hymn Celebration at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 17 in Thie Fellowship Hall on United’s campus, 4501 Denlinger Road, Dayton, OH. For more information, please visit.
