United Theological Seminary Receives Grant from Fred M. Luther Trust Foundation
Dayton, OH (PRWEB) December 17, 2015 -- United Theological Seminary received a $35,000 grant from the Fred. M. Luther Trust Foundation, for repairs to the Seminary’s Center for Urban Ministry located at 1516 Salem Ave., Dayton, Ohio, the former church building of Dayton’s First United Methodist Church.
The $35,000 grant will help United update and repair the heating and air conditioning systems at the Center for Urban Ministry, which currently hosts six churches in its 50,000-square-foot facility. From this location, these churches conduct worship services, provide food and clothing to meet community needs and work alongside the Center to support community-oriented activities.
The Seminary plans to address repairs to the Center for Urban Ministry’s boiler system in early 2016. Remaining funds will be used to purchase and install window air conditioning units.
“We have been blessed by this gift from the Fred M. Luther Charitable Trust,” said Rev. Dr. Robert Jones, Director of the Center for Urban Ministry. “Theological education is an important part of equipping church leaders, and the Center for Urban Ministry plays a role in that process by providing a place for churches and their leaders to grow. This gift will enable us to better serve these local congregations.”
The Fred M. Luther Trust Foundation carries out the wishes of Dayton tool and die maker Fred M. Luther. Upon his death in 2009, he left a sizeable trust to support the building maintenance needs of churches in Montgomery County.
