United Theological Seminary Welcomes New Faculty
Dayton, OH (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Dr. Scott Kisker joined United Theological Seminary’s faculty on July 1, and Dr. Joni Sancken will start in January 2014.
Dr. Kisker, who joins as Professor of the History of Christianity, comes to United from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Dr. Kisker is an elder in the Iowa Annual Conference, and he has served as Senior Pastor of Colesburg United Methodist Church in Colesburg, IA.
Before coming to Wesley Theological Seminary, he served as the director of the Charles Wesley Heritage Centre in Bristol, United Kingdom, and as Associate Pastor for the American Protestant Church in Bonn, Germany. He has a BA from Swarthmore College, an M.Div. from The Divinity School at Duke University and a Ph.D. from Drew University.
He has three publications: "Longing for Spring: A New Vision for Wesleyan Community," co-authored with Elaine Heath, "Mainline or Methodist? Recovering Our Evangelistic Mission" and "Foundation for Revival: Anthony Horneck, the Religious Societies, and the Rise of an Anglican Pietism."
Dr. Joni Sancken will join the United faculty as Assistant Professor of Homiletics in January. Dr. Sancken comes to United from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA.
She graduated with a Ph.D. in Homiletics from the Toronto School of Theology, earned an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and a B.A. from Goshen College. Dr. Sancken completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Practical Theology and Religious Practices at Emory University and was appointed as Director of Eastern Mennonite Seminary’s Preaching Institute.
Dr. Sancken’s publications include: "Propers 23-28" in "Abingdon Theological Companion to the Lectionary Year B," "Epiphany" in "New Proclamation, Series C, Advent through Holy Week 2012-2013," "Dawbarn, Elizabeth (early 19th cent.)" in "Biographical History of Women Biblical Interpreters," "Deverell, Mary (18th cent.)" in "Biographical History of Women Biblical Interpreters," "Proper 11, years A, B, and C" in "Preaching Social Justice and Transformation: A Lectionary Commentary, Year A, Year B, and Year C" and "Calling Forth More Witnesses: Claiming the Voices of Preachers Silenced by History" In "Toronto Journal of Theology."
Dr. Sancken is also one of the instructors for United’s 11th Annual Preaching Retreat: Preaching Biblical Narrative, which will be held August 13-15 at United Theological Seminary.
