United Way Campaign Running Behind – There’s Still Time to Give
Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona (UWTSA) is halfway through its annual campaign. For more than 80 years, annual campaigns have allowed United Way to collectively address Tucson’s most pressing health and human service needs. There is still time to invest in this year's campaign, which concludes on June 30, 2014.
“This is still an uphill battle,” says Marco Andrino, United Way’s Vice President of Resource Development. While many companies have met or exceeded their goals, others have not been able to due to decreases in workforce or other challenges. In addition, the federal government shutdown had a negative impact on the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) which to date is running nearly a million dollars behind last year. Paul Bonavia, CEO of Tucson Electric Power and UWTSA board chair says, “The community needs did not go down; we must come together.”
Every dollar invested in United Way returns more than $5.66 to the community, funding more than 100 partner agencies and collectively serving one in ten individuals throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona. “That is why we need your help,” says Mary Huerstel, United Way's CFO. “We’re not a seasonal fundraising effort; if we don’t reach our fundraising goal, vital year-round services to our community might be lost.”
Last year, nearly 13,000 Tucsonans from more than one hundred companies participated in United Way’s annual workforce campaign. Support is broad, spanning the public and private sectors, from small local businesses to large multinational corporations.
"No single agency can meet all community needs. When you give to United Way, however, your gift is combined with the gifts of others and along with grant funding, impacts the issues in our community that matter most. As a result of our volunteer-led allocations process, we create real positive change in the lives of children, families and seniors," states Tony Penn, United Way's President & CEO.
United Way is urgently appealing to the community to come together so critical needs don’t go unmet this year. For more information on how to run a United Way workforce campaign or other ways to partner, please call 520.903.9000, or visit unitedwaytucson.org/donate.
