University of Arkansas Theatre Presents ‘The Foreigner’ by Larry Shue
Fayetteville, AR (PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- Get ready to laugh! The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre is presenting one of the funniest American plays ever written. Performances of “The Foreigner” by Larry Shue will run February 20 through March 1.
A staple of theatres around the country, the play won two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New Play and Best Off-Broadway Production. The most recent New York revival of The Foreigner starred Matthew Broderick as main character Charlie.
In the play, Charlie, a painfully shy Englishman, pretends not to speak English during his stay at a rural Georgia fishing lodge. Thinking he can’t understand them, the locals reveal all sorts of secret information – some of it downright shocking. While hilarity prevails, there’s also romance, action, intrigue – and even a little dose of social commentary – in this perennial favorite.
The play is directed by Michael Landman (“She Stoops to Conquer,” “A Streetcar Named Desire”), head of directing for the University of Arkansas Theatre Department.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Feb. 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 and March 1. All performances are in the University Theatre in Fine Arts Center. The performances on Feb. 25 and 26 are free to students with a valid University of Arkansas ID. In order to get their free tickets, U of A students must make their reservations in person at the box office.
Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and faculty/staff and $5 for students. Tickets are available online at http://theatre.uark.edu, or through the University Theatre box office. The box office for “The Foreigner” will be open from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Feb. 16. The box office is also open two hours prior to each performance.
