University of Texas Opens UT Breast Center in August to Surgically Treat Breast Cancer in the Houston Area
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) September 22, 2016 -- Already featuring a branch that focuses on minimally invasive surgery, as well as another with an emphasis on weight loss through bariatric medicine and surgery, the University of Texas has now opened a center with an aim to preserve and promote breast health. While a variety of procedures are available, the main focus is on breast cancer. Houston-area patients are invited to bring their breast-based issues to the team to have their questions answered and concerns addressed.
Dr. Emily Robinson, Dr. Tamara Saunders, and Dr. Gretchen Zimmerman are the three surgeons heading up the UT Breast Center. Their physical office is in Bellaire, Texas, but they welcome breast cancer patients and others from all over Houston, Sugarland, Katy, Cypress, Spring, Beaumont, and beyond.
In fact, the center opened with the purpose of being a resource for any woman who has concerns about her breast health, pain, or masses.
The team will promote breast cancer education and examinations, providing information on chemotherapy, the benefits and risks of lumpectomies and mastectomies, and breast cancer surgery and recovery. The center will help patients decide on the best course of action in treating breast cancer that has been detected and confirmed, offering surgical options if that is the chosen route.
Services at UT Breast Center are divided roughly into two camps: cancer removal and breast reconstruction.
Procedures available at the practice include lumpectomies and mastectomies to remove cancerous tissue. A lumpectomy surgically excises a tumor from the breast and preserves a portion of the healthy breast. A mastectomy is the surgical removal of an entire breast and may be done for certain cancer types and sizes or patient preference.
Patients who have a lumpectomy or mastectomy at UT Breast Center or elsewhere often want to restore the look of their breast as much as possible. To that end, the center offers a variety of breast reconstruction techniques, as well as nipple reconstruction, breast reduction, and balancing.
The ultimate goal is to keep cancer from disrupting day-to-day living as much as possible. Getting rid of a lump or more cancerous tissue, then restoring a curvy silhouette, can help breast cancer patients with both their health and their self esteem.
UT Breast Center is at 6700 West Loop South, suite 500, Bellaire, Texas, 77401. For information on help for breast health and cancer in the Houston area, call (713) 892-5500.
