University of Vermont Medical Center Implements ReadyDock Technology in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
West Hartford, Conn. (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- ReadyDock Inc., maker of the world's first chemical-free disinfecting docking station, today announced that The University of Vermont Medical Center is now using ReadyDock in its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to protect infants from hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
“We know there is a relationship between hand hygiene compliance and the rate of infection in hospitals,” said Sally Hess, infection prevention manager at University of Vermont Medical Center. “Mobile hand-held devices are nearly synonymous with our hands these days since they occupy them a good percentage of our daily lives. In addition to hand hygiene, disinfecting these devices is just another step in being proactive about infection prevention.”
According to recent research, approximately 1.7 million HAIs occur in U.S. hospitals each year, resulting in nearly 100,000 deaths and an estimated $20 billion in health care costs. ReadyDock’s patented technology disinfects mobile devices in less than a minute and provides an integrated means to securely store and charge these devices.
“With the wide proliferation of mobile devices in the hospital setting, particularly in the area of smart-phones and tablets, hospitals must now consider the risks associated with staff and even patients’ use of those devices,” said David Engelhardt, president of ReadyDock. “These devices are essentially a new class of surface; a roaming high-touch surface which can expose patients and health care workers to certain microorganisms that cause serious infection. ReadyDock’s patented technology disinfects mobile devices in less than a minute without chemicals.”
