University Upgrades Dormitory Entry Security with Smarter Security Solution
Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 26, 2015 -- Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced an urban university in the Midwest recently ordered Fastlane Glassgate® 250 optical turnstiles to help secure a dormitory. Modern demands on universities to provide safer environments for students prompted the university to add sophisticated entry control, and a successful experience with this installation may lead to more around the campus.

The Midwest university in a downtown area ordered four lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 250 from Smarter Security to control the lobby entrance for one of its residential dormitories. The turnstile installation is designed to adjust to the flow of people with one lane dedicated to entry, one to exit, and two lanes available for bidirectional passage. Visitors who formerly signed in on a paper logbook now will be issued a barcode badge and pass through the turnstiles by using Smarter Security’s FastScan installed in two of the lanes. Both residents and visitors will card in and card out so the housing management knows building occupancy at any time. Fastlane was recommended to the university by its systems integrator that is familiar with Fastlane’s reliability and ease of integration with various access control technologies. The university likes Fastlane aesthetics and selected Glassgate 250 for the open feel of the low, glass barriers.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 250 is a speedgate with pedestal-height, glass barriers that swing in the direction of the user’s travel. Entry control is automated and upgraded as residents and visitors must present a valid credential to access the building. Glassgate 250 handles up to 60 people per minute to minimize any delayed passage. The barriers are a visual deterrent and have moderate resistance to further deter intruders, followed by a second, louder alarm if someone pushes the barriers open. A locking brake is a higher security option to prevent invalid entry. Glassgate 250 is an IP-enabled optical turnstile that was the first turnstile in the industry to have a UL 2593 listing.
