Upcoming FPI Webinar Will Share Progress on Recovery of Foodservice Packaging
Falls Church, VA (PRWEB) November 24, 2014 -- The Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) will showcase the progress of recycling and composting of paper and plastic foodservice packaging during a webinar scheduled for December 4.
Following the path from a consumer’s recycling bin, through a materials recovery facility (MRF) and finally to an end market, FPI President Lynn Dyer and Vice President Natha Dempsey will discuss how the association’s Paper Recovery Alliance and Plastics Recovery Group are working to overcome common barriers to recycling more cups, containers, boxes and bags. Some 2014 highlights to be addressed during the webinar include the current acceptance of foodservice packaging at MRFs in the U.S. and Canada; results of a recent food residue study; estimated and actual impacts of foodservice packaging on bales; and resources for municipalities, MRFs and end markets.
In addition to the 2014 accomplishments, the webinar will provide a sneak peek into 2015 efforts, too. Future activities for the Paper Recovery Alliance and Plastics Recovery Group include outreach to key stakeholders in the recycling field plus a new barriers and solutions approach to increasing the composting of foodservice packaging.
FPI’s newest recovery group, the Foam Recycling Coalition (FRC), also will be discussed. The webinar will cover a recent study released by the FRC showing end market demand for foam, as well as provide high-level details on their soon-to-be-launched grant program to increase public access to post-consumer foam recycling through curbside and drop off programs.
“We’ve made significant progress in 2014 toward overcoming both real and perceived barriers that are limiting the recovery of foodservice packaging,” said Dyer. “We’ll share what we’ve learned with those that will ultimately benefit from the hard work of our recovery groups.”
The webinar will be held on Thursday, December 4 at 2 p.m. Eastern. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required and may be done here. More information on FPI’s recovery efforts may be found at http://www.fpi.org/stewardship.
