Upcoming Meeting of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Aims to Heighten Physician Awareness of New Patient Care Ideas
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 07, 2015 -- For surgeons in the Southern California area, this January’s Annual Scientific Meeting of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons will be a can’t miss event, says organization President Shirin Towfigh, MD, FACS. Dr. Towfigh explains that this meeting, and the Chapter in general, has long served as a valuable and attainable resource for surgeons to ensure that their methods and practices are up-to-date. It is the most popular local meeting to learn the latest research and medical technologies. Many of the discussions focus on advancements, discoveries, and achievements in general surgery and the surgical subspecialties. In addition, there is excellent review of common topics, relevant to the practicing community surgeon, with open question and answer sessions from local and invited experts.
As the organization’s first female President, Dr. Towfigh is also thrilled that the 8th annual Women in Surgery Luncheon will be taking place during the second day of the conference, on January 16th. This luncheon will feature special guest speaker, Patricia Numann, MD, FACS, a prominent surgeon from New York, who was past President of the American College of Surgeons and Founder of the Association of Women Surgeons. Her talk is entitled, "Lessons Learned as a Woman Surgeon: Advocacy, Recruitment and Empowerment.” Dr. Towfigh explains this will be an invaluable learning opportunity for any women in training as well as in surgical practice. This is a separate, optional event for which conference participants need to register separately.
As Dr. Towfigh is an expert in treating hernias as well as in robotic surgery, she has infused this into the content of the upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting in Santa Barbara. There will be a “What’s New” session on hernias, updating the audience with all topics related to hernia repair, including the incorporation of new technology, new mesh, and the use of botox injections. In addition, in the “Battle of the Blades” session, there will be a debate on the pros and cons of robotic surgery for hernia repair.
