Uplift Peak Preparatory Receives $45,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education® Grant
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $45,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education® grant to Uplift Peak Preparatory to fund an extreme library makeover.
“Lowe’s is committed to recognizing and supporting efforts that enrich the lives of our neighbors and customers,” said Marshall Croom, chairman of Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “By supporting schools like Uplift Peak Preparatory, we believe we are contributing to a cause that’s important to our customers and employees and helping build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow’s employees, homeowners and community leaders.”
With the direction of campus leadership, Lowe’s associates gutted the the East Dallas charter school’s library and turned it into a multipurpose study and presentation environment.
Emily Nolen, Uplift Peak’s middle school director, applied for the grant because she wanted to provide completely different kind of library experience for her middle school scholars.
“My vision was to create a place that had a more formal executive feel. I want to encourage our scholars to read for pleasure, while giving them a place to conduct presentations in an environment that prepares them to be competitive in college and the working world,” she said.
In addition to custom bookshelves along the walls, the library will have a conference area and seating for 30 additional scholars.
Lowe’s Toolbox for Education provides the financial tools to improve schools throughout the United States. Lowe’s signature education grant program has donated more than $36 million to 8,000 K-12 public schools since 2006, benefiting more than 4 million schoolchildren.
