Urban Wood Goods Wins Award for Best Recycled Product
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 01, 2015 -- Urban Wood Goods, a furniture manufacturer and e-tailer located north of Chicago in Gurnee, Illinois, recently won an award from the Illinois Recycling Association for “Best Recycled-Content Product, Small Manufacturing.” The nomination was submitted by Mike Motor, manager for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Recycling Expansion and Modernization program.
Established in 2010, Urban Wood Goods is a unique furniture company that uses only reclaimed, old growth wood for its products, which include desks, tables, benches, shelves and more. The bulk of this wood comes from deconstructed, pre-1920s era buildings in Chicago, as well as old barns throughout the Midwestern U.S.
This environmentally friendly approach helps keep these materials from clogging up area landfills and allows the company to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces for its clients. Currently, this client list includes commercial clients as well as residential customers from across the country. Urban Wood Goods also has a showroom in Chicago IL.
In 2013, the DCEO REM program provided Urban Wood Goods with a matching grant to help the company purchase new manufacturing equipment, and a lumber kiln to modernize its production processes. With these changes, UWG was able to expand product capacity, increase production volume and improve overall product quality. It also created four new, full-time jobs, led to $425,000 in increased sales and diverted 34 tons of discarded wood from local landfills.
The Illinois Recycling Association’s awards were announced at the annual Illinois Recycling Association Conference on June 19th. To learn more, visit IllinoisRecycles.com. To see Urban Wood Good’s product offering, visit UrbanWoodGoods.com.
