US Congressman Dave Brat visits Veritas Collaborative; House and Senate Bills support access to care
DURHAM, N.C. (PRWEB) February 14, 2018 -- Congressman Dave Brat (VA-07) visited the Richmond, VA location of Veritas Collaborative, a specialty healthcare system for the treatment of eating disorders, on February 12, 2018. The Representative met with Executive Director Elisha Contner Wilkins along with other key members of the Veritas Collaborative staff and toured the medical and outpatient services facility in Henrico County.
"Eating disorders are real, complex medical and psychiatric illnesses that can have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships that impact countless families and communities,” said Congressman Brat. “Congress has already taken positive steps forward in the 21st Century Cures Act and with the help of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, progress is being made to ensure health care professionals can better identify and treat eating disorders."
Designed to help the estimated 30 million people suffering from eating disorders throughout the United States, provisions in both bills will enhance the ability of states to address healthcare access for this population. The Alexander/Murray bill provides for decreasing overall premium prices and creating more flexibility for all states to design better marketplace plans. The Costello/Peterson bill provides $30 billion for three years to help states offset insurance costs for sicker populations.
