US Olympian Chad Hedrick Visits Foot Levelers
Roanoke, Virginia (PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- Olympic gold medal-winning speed skater Chad Hedrick visited Foot Levelers headquarters in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday, July 18. Hedrick visited Roanoke as the special guest of the Virginia Amateur Sports Subway Commonwealth Games, an Olympic-style event celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2014. Foot Levelers is in its first year as a premier sponsor of the Commonwealth Games, which like Foot Levelers promotes healthy lifestyles to people of all ages and all activity levels.
Hedrick, a native of Houston, earned the first medal of the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, taking the gold in the 5,000m speed skating event. In addition to his gold medal at Turin, Hedrick also earned a silver medal in the 10,000m event and a bronze in the 1,500m race. In 2010, Hedrick won two more Olympic medals at the Vancouver Olympic Games, taking the silver in the team pursuit and a bronze in the 1,000m race.
In 2004 and 2005 Hedrick was the World Champion in the 5,000m speed skating events and was also the 2004 Allround gold medalist at the World Championships, setting a world record for points. Hedrick started off his career as a highly successful inline speed skater, winning 93 national championships and 50 world championships before moving to the ice in 2002, just two years before becoming a speed skating world champion.
Hedrick highlights the official Opening Ceremonies for the Commonwealth Games, which in its first 24 years has had over 210,000 participants. The Games have grown from 24 sports in 1990 to nearly 60 events in 2014. Since 1990, the Subway Commonwealth Games has had an estimated $72 million economic impact on the Commonwealth of Virginia, much in the Roanoke Valley, home of Foot Levelers.
