USA Security Exec Speaks at ACTHA Safety and Security Seminar
ATLANTA, Georgia (PRWEB) July 24, 2015 -- On Thursday, July 16, U.S. Security Associates executive Steven Siegel was among the presenters at a Safety and Security Seminar held in Wheeling, Illinois by the Association of Condominium, Townhouse, and Homeowners Associations (ACTHA). Siegel is Vice President of Business Development in the Metro/Midwest region of U.S. Security Associates, a national security company serving many residential communities. Siegel was joined by other guest speakers from the Wheeling Crime Prevention Department and from ACM Community Management, a property management firm in the Chicago area. The ACTHA event was attended by property management personnel and residential association board members.
In his presentation on community safety and security, Siegel focuses on ways to keep community crime levels down, including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Through CPTED, environmental elements are optimized to make communities more secure. CPTED techniques might include installing new lighting in dark areas, putting up cameras around the community, and restricting access through gates.
Siegel emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility. Community members must be encouraged to speak up if they see something or someone suspicious and even to take pictures with their phones if possible. “The police and private security can’t be everywhere at all times,” Siegel admits. “Often, by the time police or private security respond to an incident, it’s over. Members of the community need to take responsibility for noticing what’s going on and acting on potential threats.”
Siegel suggests that in communities that are not gated, where access is relatively open, residents should take precautions such as setting light timers at night, so there appears to be activity in the residences. Property managers can take steps to maintain safety and security by implementing CPTED techniques and by engaging private security companies to conduct community security patrols and perform other security services.
Siegel describes some of the services U.S. Security Associates provides to protect residents and deter crime. “In gated communities, we provide security officers who perform gate access control, patrol the community by vehicle or on foot, and respond to emergency calls from residents. In other types of residential facilities, we provide lobby attendants, door staff, and patrol officers.” Siegel says U.S. Security Associates is also frequently called upon to provide staffing and services for special community events. “We offer event security and crowd management, and we coordinate event planning and emergency response with local authorities.”
Siegel is slated to speak on security again at ACTHA’s upcoming North Expo in September in Northbrook, Illinois.
