USA Water Ski Foundation Increases Scholarship Funds for Athletes
Polk City, FL (PRWEB) March 14, 2014 -- The USA Water Ski Foundation (USA-WSF) is pleased to announce that it will be offering new scholarship opportunities for all participants of towed water sports in 2014. As part of a new four-year strategic plan, the Foundation is taking steps to offer more lucrative scholarships and to increase the number of scholarships offered.
Leading the way to demonstrate this commitment, USA-WSF Vice President and Water Ski Hall of Famer Jim Grew has increased the Foundation’s Jim Grew/Barbra Bolding Scholarship from $3,000 to $5,000, as well as doubling the funds of two other scholarships. The Jim Grew Perpetual Scholarships for AWSA Boys 1 & Girls 1 is increasing from $1,000 to $2,000.
“Students will feel the impact of these changes immediately and where it counts – in their wallets,” Grew said. “Education is expensive. The Foundation wants to make a college degree more affordable and accessible to water skiers and other participants in towed water sports.”
Immediately following Grew’s lead, 2013 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team Manager Jody Johnson stepped up to increase the AWSA Linda Giddens scholarship from $1,000 to $2,000. The Foundation leadership hopes others will follow suit. “We are proud of the example Jim and Jody have set here and we hope their example will encourage others to do the same,” USA-WSF President Paul Chapin said. “The cost of education has gone up considerably over the past several years. We want our water ski and towed water sports athletes to have the same educational opportunities as those from other sports have. We are committed to making that happen.”
The Foundation also has added an additional scholarship available to water skiers in 2014. The new George Blair Ambassador Scholarship will be offered this year in the amount of $2,200. This will bring the number of scholarships offered for the 2014 school year to nine. The Foundation also administers six AWSA Scholarships.
Applications have been coming in from all over the country. More information about the scholarship program can be found at http://waterskihalloffame.com/scholarship.html.
