USC Ophthalmology Residency Program Ranked in Top 10 by Doximity
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 04, 2015 -- The USC Eye Institute is proud to announce that the USC Ophthalmology Residency Program was ranked number 9 nationwide by Doximity. Faculty, residents and staff are honored to have contributed to the success of our program.
“At USC, we take great pride in the quality of our ophthalmology residency program. Our faculty places a high priority on our educational programs in training the next generation of physician-scientists. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to train the best and brightest students, and are delighted to be recognized for excellence in this area,” said Rohit Varma, MD, MPH, director of the USC Eye Institute.
Ophthalmology residency program rankings are based on the peer-reviewed Doximity Residency Navigator survey that includes peer nominations, ratings and reviews by board-certified US physicians. In its second year reporting, Doximity, the online physician network, joined forces with US News & World Report to establish Residency Navigator, a search tool for medical students who are preparing for the residency application process.
“Our program is unique in that our residents have access to our world-renowned faculty, the ability to do research that has a true impact on the future of ophthalmology and wide-variety of patients and clinical diseases in order to build the foundation for their ophthalmology training,” said Jesse Berry, MD, assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology and associate residency program director.
The USC Ophthalmology Residency Program focuses on training, mentoring and inspiring future leaders in four diverse clinical and surgical settings: USC Eye Institute at Keck Medical Center of USC, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), Los Angeles County Hospital (LAC) and the VA Downtown Los Angeles Medical Center.
The program offers several unique attributes, including training at LAC, where residents have significant autonomy and unparalleled exposure to the most advanced ophthalmic clinical conditions. The dedicated sub-specialty trained attending physicians teach, support, and mentor residents through a structured faculty-led teaching program and a formalized surgical curriculum. As one of the most federally funded eye institutes in the world, the USC Eye Institute collaborates across disciplines with a wide variety of industries and institutions. It is an ideal interdisciplinary environment for physicians who have a passion to be a part of cutting-edge vision science.
“We are committed to providing a learning environment that transforms our residents into well-informed, confident and highly-skilled physicians and surgeons,” said Dr. Vivek Patel, associate professor of clinical ophthalmology and residency program director.
