User Blocking Now Available on Disqus Commenting Platform
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 15, 2016 -- Disqus, the world’s leading commenting and audience development platform for publishers, today announces user blocking in an effort to help reduce online harassment, trolling, and improve online discussions.
“We see a lot of comments — millions of people from around the world use Disqus to post over 50 million comments every month. Sometimes the discussions are provoking and fun, but sometimes, well, they’re not. We’ve been hearing from Disqus users that they want better blocking controls and I’m happy that the feature is finally here. We hope that this makes it easier for people to dive into good discussions, plus we also know that it’ll really help out publishers by reducing how much moderating they have to do,” said Daniel Ha, CEO and co-founder.
Starting today, all users of Disqus can block profiles of commenters that are distracting from their online discussion experience. Blocking someone on the Disqus network removes activity from all areas a user experiences communication from Disqus. This means that when a user blocks someone, they'll no longer get notifications from a blocked user via email or in their Disqus Inbox, nor will they see discussions or comments by the blocked user in their Home feed or on discussion threads.
How does user blocking work exactly?
Disqus now offers two ways to block a user:
- Through a comment dropdown menu
- Within a user’s profile page
To unblock someone, users can do so from their blocked users list via the Blocked section in user settings.
When viewing the profile of a blocked user, a blocked status will appear.
