USGBC-NCC Strengthens Green Building Movement: Joins Forces with National Effort, Appoints Brenden McEneaney Executive Director
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- The U.S. Green Building Council’s Northern California Chapter (USGBC-NCC) has joined a dozen other chapters across the country to integrate operations with the national headquarters in Washington, DC. The move will create greater consistency and clarity in the green building marketplace and leverage organizational efficiencies to further the chapter’s efforts. The chapter is also pleased to announce that Brenden McEneaney, LEED AP (BD+C), has joined the chapter as Executive Director. McEneaney brings over 10 years of experience in the built environment and has spoken internationally on sustainability, green building and environmental policy.
The chapter has aligned with USGBC mission and programs for many years. By joining the unified movement under national headquarters, USGBC-NCC staff and volunteers will have increased support for operational management while they continue to make landmark strides in tackling large-scale issues in the region’s green building movement.
“We are very excited to get even more support from the national headquarters of USGBC,” said McEneaney. “This step represents a valuable evolution in a transformative organization that is maturing to meet the serious challenges that our communities face.”
McEneaney, who is now leading the chapter in continuing its effort to transform and empower the Bay Area’s built environment, previously served as Director of Urban Resilience at the Urban Land Institute. There he oversaw the organization’s work on building sustainable communities to more successfully adapt to and recover from adverse events. He also brings added experience from his management of the Green Building Program at the City of Santa Monica where he developed green building codes, policies, incentive programs, and educational programs and acted as the City’s primary technical consultant for construction projects.
“Brenden joins our chapter leadership team at a critical time and brings deep knowledge of the green building industry,” said Board Chair Anthony Bernheim. “His commitment to global and local long-term sustainability and enthusiasm will facilitate the continued growth of this organization as one of the leading chapters in the USGBC.”
A graduate of Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and Yale University, McEneaney’s ambition for positive impact will play a large role in his contribution to the USGBC-NCC team. “The pioneering leadership of the Northern California Chapter and its members is exactly the combination of innovative impact that is needed to ensure a sustainable future,” said McEneaney. “I hope to help cultivate and grow the chapter’s leadership to make a difference locally, in the heart of the communities where we live and work, and also serve as a model for what’s possible for communities everywhere.”
The chapter’s efforts toward a healthier future continues through various programs, including its most recent Building Health Initiative in which product transparency, health and wellness are promoted by industry leaders across several sectors. The Initiative’s second annual Building Health Forum arrives January 2016, and the chapter will host its 2015 Green Building Awards Gala Fundraiser in San Francisco later this month on September 30.
