USO Operation That’s My Dress Brings Day of Fashion to Military Teens in Hampton Roads
Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) September 27, 2017 -- Registration is now open for USO Operation That’s My Dress, a program from the well known military organization that will give military teens in the Hampton Roads area the chance to pick out a free, brand new gown or cocktail dress from several of the most recognizable names in fashion, including international designer Sherri Hill. The event will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach Town Center and will provide a memorable experience to 800 military teens in our community. This event, which will kick off with a fashion show, will also feature a Beauty Bar with jewelry and fashion accessories for participants to get a complete look from head to toe.
Military teens experience unique challenges related to military life with frequent moves, deployments, and adapting to new homes and communities. The Operation That’s My Dress experience is just one of the many ways the USO connects service members and their families to their family, home and country.
“We’re proud to bring the USO’s Operation: That’s My Dress to Hampton Roads.” Said Paula Moran, President and CEO of USO Hampton Roads and Central Virginia. “Working alongside our active duty service members every day, I see first hand the challenges that military parents face. As a mom of two adult children, I remember just how challenging the teenage years were, especially for my daughter. I’m delighted at the thought of just how impactful this event can be for 800 military teens in our community!”
Teens who have at least one active duty military parent currently serving in our armed forces can register for one of two sessions. Registered teens may also bring up to 2 friends along to share in the experience and offer advice along the way. Session A will begin at 3:30PM and can accommodate 400 teens. Session B will begin at 6:30PM, to accommodate another 400 teens. Each session will have a fashion show featuring 20 professional models or Miss USA titleholders, live musical performances from the USO Show Troupe, and nearly 50 hair and makeup artists.
USO Operation That’s My Dress begins with a Fashion Show featuring professional models showcasing evening/formal wear by world-class designers and entertainment by the USO Show Troupe. A Dress Expo, filled with over 1,000 dress options, will open after the Fashion Show and the models will pair up with military teens to help them find their perfect dress. Also, stylists will be on hand providing hair and make-up demonstrations and consultations at the Style Spa to give participants additional resources to help them feel confident and beautiful.
