UXB International Equipment Destroys Libyan Chemical Weapons
Blacksburg, Virginia (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- UXB International, a global leader in applied technologies for mitigating the legacy hazards of war, has today announced its contribution to the successful completion of the destruction of lethal chemical weapons in Libya. The toxic arms, including artillery shells and aerial bombs, have been eliminated with a unique system supplied by UXB and its subcontractor, Dynasafe International, to Parsons Corporation, an international engineering, construction, technical, and professional services firm headquartered in California. The campaign was finalized within a challenging timeline, completing the disposal of 1.6 metric tons of weaponized sulphur mustard within Libya’s declared chemical weapons stockpile.
The project was executed under the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, financed by the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in collaboration with the Libyan National Authority (LNA), and was subject to verification by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The UXB team delivered a customized and transportable Static Detonation Chamber (SDC), designed, built, and delivered to Libya in only 8 months, for the destruction of weaponized chemical warfare artillery and bombs filled with mustard gas, with destruction completed on 26 January, 2014.
