Columbia, SC (PRWEB) April 19, 2014 -- The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Timothy B. McMurry, EdD, MSN, BSN, as the new Director of the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center located in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. McMurry will oversee the delivery of health care to nearly 74,000 unique Veteran patients via a workforce of nearly 2200 employees who provide quality services at the 216-bed WJB Dorn facility. Mr. McMurry will also be responsible for the management of the facility’s operating budget of approximately $350 million.
Mr. McMurry has a proven track record as an exceptional health care leader and served as the former Associate Medical Center Director at the Iowa City VA Health Care System (ICVAHCS), Iowa City, Iowa; with outstanding qualifications and skills, demonstrated management ability to lead complex organizations, motivate employees, manage resources, and work successfully with widely varied stakeholder groups. It is anticipated that Mr. McMurry will arrive at the medical center within the next 60 days to begin his appointment.
As the former Associate Medical Center Director at ICVAHCS, Mr. McMurry was directly responsible for Human Resources, Education, Police, Medical Media, Finance, Safety, Nutrition and Food; Facilities, Emergency Management, Public Affairs, Environmental Management Services, Privacy Officer, Business Office, Logistics, Canteen, Contracting, Office of Information Technology, Prosthetics, Information Security, and Decision Support Services. Additional responsibilities included service as the elected Associate Director Representative for the VISN 23 Executive Leadership Council (ELC) providing input and championing critical issues in support of National and VISN-wide strategic planning. Mr. McMurry also held other Executive-level key positions such as the Chairperson of the VISN 23 Strategic Workforce Counsel, which possessed the ultimate responsibility of ensuring that the VISN 23 mission and all associated processes and activities were supported by the highest quality workforce.
