On that basis, Valerie Doherty not only qualifies, but excels. Doherty Staffing Solutions was founded in 1980, and Valerie and her husband Tim still run the company with their sons today. As Owner and Chief Executive Officer, Valerie Doherty actively oversees the human resources, legal, safety, and risk management departments of Doherty | The Employment Experts, including the company’s various business sub-divisions. Her down-to-earth approach and savvy intellect inspire individuals around her to strive for success in everything they do. Valerie continually demonstrates a true passion for her profession and is always eager to embrace a new technology or resource for continued company advancement.
Valerie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Cloud State University and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. She is a member of several key organizations including the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the American Staffing Association (ASA), and the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Over the course of her career, she has been named the National Association of Women Business Owners Businesswoman of the Year, the St. Cloud State University Alumni of the Year, and the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management’s Entrepreneur of the Year. In addition, Valerie has been featured on the Who’s Who: The Staffing 100 list by Staffing Industry Review and was also honored by the Minnesota Family Business Awards Committee as the Female Executive of the Year, while her company received the Emerging Award the same year. In 2015, she was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award by NAWBO’s Minnesota chapter.
Under her management and leadership, the company has been listed in Working Woman Magazine’s 500 Largest Women-Owned Businesses in the United States, Inc. Magazine’s 500 Fastest-Growing Companies in America (twice), as well as The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s lists of Largest Woman-Owned Businesses, Top 25 Women Owned Businesses, Fastest-Growing Private Businesses and Most Productive Businesses in Minnesota. In 2014, the company also received the highly prestigious Minnesota Business Ethics Award. The company is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise, has achieved national standards as a Top Workplace for the past four consecutive years, and has also obtained Workers’ Compensation Risk Certification.
As a dynamic husband and wife team, Valerie has been working side-by-side with Tim to build the company into the successful business enterprise it is today. They are equally excited to have both of their sons, Billy and Mickey, involved in the business as its up-and-coming, next generation owners and are looking forward to the future endeavors of the company. When she’s not working, Valerie enjoys family activities and playing tennis.
