Van Brinson New World T.E.A.M. Sports CEO and President
Holbrook, New York (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Chief Operations Officer Van Brinson is the new Chief Executive Officer and President of national non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports. The US Marine Corps veteran follows retiring CEO and President Paul Tyler.
“The board and I are delighted that Van Brinson has agreed to serve as our Chief Executive Officer and President,” said James Benson, the organization’s Chairman and founder. “Van has been instrumental to World T.E.A.M. Sports’ success these last three years. He offers a unique perspective to leadership for our organization, having rode across the country in our Sea to Shining Sea and organized our Face of America ride since 2011. Our anticipation is great for the coming years.”
Retiring to concentrate on his duties as Senior Vice President at Fidelity & Guaranty Life in Baltimore, Maryland, Tyler oversaw a period of growth for World T.E.A.M. Sports. During his two year tenure, the non-profit hosted its second Sea to Shining Sea cross-country bicycle ride with disabled veterans and an expansion of the Face of America bicycle ride from the Pentagon to Gettysburg, with more than 500 riders participating in 2012 and 2013. In addition, Tyler also coordinated and enhanced corporate and event sponsorships with national corporations such as Capital One Bank, Penske Truck Rental, General Electric, Booz Allen Hamilton, American Portfolios Financial Services and Fidelity & Guaranty Life.
“World T.E.A.M. Sports appreciates the thoughtful guidance, leadership and active participation Paul has provided our organization since 2012,” said Benson.
“Paul has been a true leader for this organization,” agreed Brinson. “He has kept us focused on the structural principles which allow an organization to move forward. Fortunately for us, he is not completely departing, but moving to the Board of Directors where he can have a more strategic impact upon the organization.”
A veteran of the US Marine Corps, Brinson served as a Communications Officer before receiving his wings in 1997. Participating in various missions worldwide, including service in Iraq, Brinson served four years with the Presidential Helicopter Squadron. He retired from the Marines in 2010.
Brinson rode his bicycle cross-country with World T.E.A.M. Sports’ 2010 Sea to Shining Sea ride, serving as ride leader. Recognizing the benefits of sports in the lives of injured members of the military, Brinson accepted a position as Chief Operations Officer for the organization in November 2010. Responsible for all organizational events and programs, including planning and coordination, Brinson directed the success of several World T.E.A.M. Sports events, including the 2011-2013 Face of America rides, the 2012 Sea to Shining Sea ride, the 2012 Military Initiative Soldiers to the Summit at Snowbird winter camp, and two Adventure Teen Challenges in the Washington, DC area.
“I am honored that the Board of Directors have entrusted me with this position,” said Brinson. “World T.E.A.M. Sports has built an impressive history and I intend to keep that in mind while focusing the organization towards the future.”
A resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brinson and his wife Allyson have two children.
