Varize Advances to Level 9 Western Championships
Emeryville, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2016 -- Head Over Heels Athletic Arts’ gymnast, Brooklyn Varize, has qualified to compete in the Junior Olympic Level 9 Western Championships. The competition will be held at the University of Montana on April 28-May 1. Varize will compete on Saturday against the nation’s best level 9 gymnasts west of the Mississippi River.
In order to qualify, Varize needed to place top seven all-around in her respective age group. Varize earned fifth all-around with a personal-best score, 37.625. Additionally, Varize earned third on vault (9.65), 12th on bars (9.025), second on beam (9.6), and 13th on floor (9.35).
Though Varize has been competing in the sport for many years, it is her first time performing at this high caliber competition.
“I’m a little nervous but mostly excited,” Varize said. “Because this is my first Western Championship, I don’t really know what to expect. I do know that it’s going to be fun to meet a lot of other gymnasts and experience what it’s like to compete on the Region 1 Team.”
The Region 1 Team features the top gymnasts from Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah. Varize will represent Region 1 with other Western Championship qualifiers from the region. The Western Championships features 16 age divisions, which are determined by birthdate. The Level 9 Western Championships encompass the top gymnasts from Regions 1-4.
“It’s the last meet of the season, so it’s more about having fun than stressing on qualifying to the next meet,” Varize said. “I’m focused on enjoying the experience.”
