Vaughn Taylor captures title, Cinderella story at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
(PRWEB) February 17, 2016 -- Vaughn Taylor is going home with over $1.2 million in prize money and the title of 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am champion after claiming a one-stroke victory over Phil Mickelson on Sunday afternoon. The win represents Taylor’s first in 11 years.
A strong performance on the back nine holes, including a stretch of four straight birdies on holes 13 through 16 helped Taylor take home the trophy. He finished with a seven-under 65 on the final day, an incredibly surprising and impressive result for a player ranked 447th in the world who at many times wondered if he’d ever win another tournament. “I didn’t know if it would ever happen again,” Taylor said. “I lost confidence, lost my game. Kept grinding and I can’t believe it.”
Just two years ago, Taylor was merely a spectator without a tour card and a floundering career. Ironically enough, it was around that time that Taylor connected with Pebble Beach Academy Guest Instructor Scot W.R. Nei, about his training tool called the RoboGolfPro, a robotic device in a class all its own that allows golfers to correct their swing with the physical guidance of robotic arms.
Taylor credits Nei and the device for developing the dramatic improvements in his swing that ultimately led him to sole possession of the top spot on Sunday. “The robot has helped me a ton and I appreciate everything he [Scot] has done for me. It’s a great product. I recommend it to golfers of all ages and sizes.”
The RoboGolfPro played a key role in helping Taylor maintain his confidence in the days leading up to the tournament. Hundreds of practise swings analyzed on a computer allowed Taylor to put together a consistent and sound swing, paying immediate dividends throughout the week. The fact Taylor has his tour card back now and will now be eligible to play on his home turf at The Masters is proof of that.
All of this for a golfer who has appeared in just 17 events since 2014 with his last victory coming at the Reno-Tahoe Open back in 2005. To say the least it’s certainly been a long journey for the 39-year-old, but it looks like his career is finally on the upswing once again.
Taylor’s win at Pebble Beach serves to show that persistence and hard work eventually pay off, even if it means waiting over a decade between trophies.
