About Shmoop
Shmoop is a digital curriculum and test prep company that makes fun, rigorous learning and teaching materials. Shmoop content is written by master teachers and Ph.D. students from Stanford, Harvard, UC Berkeley, and other top universities. Shmoop Learning Guides, Test Prep, and Teacher’s Editions balance a teen-friendly, approachable style with academically rigorous materials to help teachers help students understand how subjects relate to their daily lives. Shmoop has been an engaging and highly effective way for students to boost test scores and matriculation rates. A few of the results include:
● Indio High School: Once named to the ‘chronically underperforming list,’ the school was awarded the Top High School Silver Award Winner from US News & Reports, and saw a 6x increase in the number of AP scholars (from 4 to 25) after implementing Shmoop. The school also saw the percentage of students scoring above the national average rocket from 61% to 80% in two years.
● Northeast High School: Despite steep budget cuts, this Philadelphia school tripled college-eligible test scores and saw college matriculation jump 10% through cost-effective programs and solutions like Shmoop.
● Tustin High School: After introducing Shmoop to its Advanced Placement classes, one out of 1.5 AP tests scored a ‘3’ or higher, compared to the the pre-Shmoop days (before 2011) when only 1 out of every 3 exams resulted in a college ready score.
Shmoop sees over 7 million unique visitors a month on its site, and offers more than 7,000 titles across the Web, iPhone, Android devices, iPad, Kindle, Nook, and Sony Reader. The company has been honored twice by the Webby Awards, named “Best in Tech” for 2010 and 2011 by Scholastic Administrator, and awarded with two Annual Education Software Review Awards (EDDIES) in 2013. Launched in 2008, Shmoop is headquartered in a labradoodle-patrolled office in Mountain View, California.
