Veritas Collaborative, A Durham Specialty Eating Disorder Hospital, Now Offers Nasogastric (NG) Tube Feeding Services
Durham, NC (PRWEB) September 02, 2014 -- Veritas Collaborative, a Specialty Behavioral Health Hospital for children and adolescents with eating disorder diagnoses, now offers nasogastric (NG) tube feeding services for patients determined to be in need of this treatment.
For some young patients, struggling to recover from an eating disorder can be physically and psychologically painful. In restrictive eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, re-feeding can result in medical complications as one’s body readapts to food processing again. NG tube feeding is a method of directly delivering nutrition to a patient in a collaborative, patient-centered, humane manner toward achieving re-nourishment and recovery.
Now, patients who need NG tube feeding are able to remain in Veritas Collaborative’s specialized eating disorder care while receiving this intervention. With 3 full time MDs, 24-hour nursing, and a high ratio of therapeutic support staff to patients (1:3), NG tube feeding is offered in a safe, nurturing, and well-monitored environment.
Veritas Collaborative treats male and female children & adolescents, 10 – 19 years of age, at the acute inpatient, sub-acute inpatient/acute residential, and partial hospitalization levels of care. Veritas follows the American Psychiatric Association's guidelines to determine the appropriate level of care for eating disorder treatment.
Acute Inpatient hospitalization is an intensive level of treatment for patients who are medically unstable, and need daily care from a medical doctor alongside frequent nursing care. NG tube feeding would be offered at the inpatient level of care when indicated.
Sub-Acute Inpatient/Acute Residential is a structured treatment program for patients requiring constant supervision with around-the-clock nursing care, and whose medical condition indicates a need for MD rounding 2-3 times per week.
Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP) is indicated for medically stable patients who need structured programming and are clinically and medically able go home at night.
