Veritas Prep Announces the 40 Best American Teachers Under 40
Malibu, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Veritas Prep, the world’s largest privately owned test preparation and admissions consulting firm, today announced the 2013 “40 Most Influential Teachers Under 40” list, recognizing some of the most innovative and passionate young teachers who make a positive difference in the lives of American students.
From worries about falling behind internationally to concerns about cuts in funding to questions about the effectiveness of Common Core and other standards, it’s easy to think that American schools are a lost cause. However, this misses the fact that every day there are thousands of teachers across the United States who are inventing new solutions to age-old problems and opening their students’ eyes to new possibilities. These are young people who could do anything with their lives, and they have chosen to put improving students’ lives first.
For its first-ever “40 Most Influential Teachers Under 40” list, Veritas Prep solicited nominations directly from students. Hundreds of teachers from across the United States were nominated, and there were so many great nominations that the selection process truly was a challenge. Ultimately, 40 nominated teachers stood out for their passion, innovation, and effectiveness in teaching.
“Many of us can remember that one teacher who just completely changed the way we looked at the world,” says Chad Troutwine, co-founder and CEO of Veritas Prep. “As we reviewed the nominations that came in, it was clear that all of these teachers fit that description. We were amazed by the passion that these teachers exhibit, and we are proud to make them part of our very first ’40 Under 40’ list.”
The 40 teachers on the list come from all over the United States, representing the best of the best in educating young Americans:
• Rory Hughes – Based in Michigan, Rory challenges his students to “question everything.” His most ambitious and successful initiative was using an online fundraising campaign to outfit his entire classroom with Chromebook laptop computers.
• Nikki Killen – Not many teachers would encourage their students to listen to Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” much less build a lesson around it, but this is exactly what this teacher does in Clarksville, OH. Nikki encourages her students to question the purpose of education, and they are stronger for it.
• Gene Coletta– When an entire school in Philadelphia protests to keep a teacher from being moved to another school, you know he must be a phenomenal and influential educator. That is exactly what Gene Coletta is, and his students’ demonstration proved it with their dedication to keeping him for themselves.
