Vermont Snowmaking Secures Early Season Snow

Montpelier, VT (PRWEB) December 11, 2015 -- While Mother Nature wraps up autumn, Vermont ski and snowboard resorts haven’t waited around for her to get the winter season underway. Snowmaking systems across the state have been blanketing the Green Mountains with white since as early as October, and have been maintaining growth in coverage since. With 11 alpine and Nordic resorts open this weekend, Vermont will have the most skiing and riding available in the east with nearly 1,000 acres of terrain available for winter-hungry skiers and riders.

So what is waiting for skiers and riders in Vermont?

  • Operating for the 35th day this season, Killington Resort has the most trails open in the East coast with 9 miles of skiing and riding. It was also the first to open for the season in the United States on October 18, 2015.
  • Stowe Mountain Resort is open top-to-bottom on two peaks, plus beginner terrain is open on Spruce Peak.
  • Okemo Mountain Resort boasts 124 acres of skiing and riding for this weekend.
  • Six other resorts will be open this weekend in Vermont: Bromley Mountain, Jay Peak Resort, Mount Snow Resort, Smugglers’ Notch Resort, Stratton Mountain Resort and Sugarbush Resort.
  • Two Vermont Nordic areas are open for the season: Rikert Nordic Center and Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Vermont boasts over 80% snowmaking coverage statewide and snow photos can be viewed all over resort social media sites. Resorts are also spreading the snow word with weekly video, like Smugglers’ Notch Resort’s No Bull Snow Report and Sugarbush Resort’s aerial video showing top to bottom skiing and riding from this week. With winter officially arriving on December 21, 2015, resorts will welcome slipping temperatures and natural snow. In the meantime, cooler nights will allow the snowguns to be turned on full blast to continue expansion of terrain.
