Vic’s Drum Shop Is Among the First Independent U.S. Retailers to Offer Limited Edition Tony Williams Cymbals
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Vic’s Drum Shop in Chicago is among the first independent U.S. retailers to stock the Tony Williams line of cymbals, which are manufactured by Turkish cymbal maker Istanbul Mehmet. The cymbals have been created as faithful replicas of the now iconic cymbals made famous by Williams on the recordings of the '60s era Miles Davis Quintet.
"I’m incredibly excited to have these cymbals in stock at Vic's,” says Victor Salazar of Vic’s Drum Shop. “Up until now, it was nearly impossible to own and play cymbals that truly captured the essence of Tony Williams' sound from the 60s, but after hearing and seeing these new sets at the most recent NAMM convention, it’s clear that Istanbul Mehmet nailed it.”
Istanbul Mehmet was granted exclusive access to Williams’ cymbals, which were made in Istanbul in the late ’50s and given to Williams by drummer Max Roach. Colleen Williams, Tony’s widow, carried her late husband’s instruments to Turkey to provide Istanbul’s master artisans first-hand access to them. Every detail of the original cymbals has been meticulously measured, weighed, gauged, and recorded. Istanbul even used the original cup dies to form the bells on the tribute models.
Tony Williams Tribute Cymbal Limited Edition sets feature 22'' ride, 18'' crash, and 14'' hi-hats together with a deluxe leather cymbal bag, a selection of rare Tony Williams photographs, and a certificate of authenticity. They will be made available initially as limited edition numbered sets, and are available now for pre-order on Vicsdrumshop.com.
