Victory Media Celebrates 15 Years of Creating Civilian Opportunities for Veterans
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) December 12, 2016 -- In 2001, the country was reeling from the terrorist attacks of 9/11. While thousands of U.S. troops were heading overseas to fight a new war, veterans Chris Hale, Rich McCormack and Scotty Shaw were looking for a way to create sustainable demand for hiring our nation’s veterans.
After leaving the Navy in the ‘90s, the three co-founders of Victory Media found that veteran career transition resources were severely lacking. They knew there was an opportunity to create vital, civilian-produced resources for the quarter of a million people leaving military service each year. Since that time, Victory Media has produced free digital and print content, ratings, live events, curriculum, tools and resources for our nation’s vast military community, at no cost to service members or taxpayers.
“In 2001, hiring veterans was the ‘right thing to do,’” said Hale. “But unless companies hire veterans because it makes good business sense, rather than out of a sense of charity, then the demand we create for hiring veterans is not sustainable.”
“Charitable moods shift over time. And veterans are not charity cases. We have a sign in our office that reads, ‘We believe that veterans are better off for their service,’” said Hale. “This belief is fundamental to everything we do, and it defies the often-portrayed public brand that veterans are ‘broken.’ We’ve been able to convince many others to join us in that belief. And that is better for veterans.”
“Organizations now want to recruit veterans because it makes good business sense,” said McCormack. “We’ve created effective, efficient ways for schools and employers to invest their operational dollars to reach this group of talented candidates.”
In 2001, after finishing business school and working in corporate America, Hale, McCormack and Shaw founded Victory Media, launching G.I. Jobs®, its flagship brand, as a website and monthly print magazine from the basement of Hale’s house. Today, the company employs more than 50 professionals, including veterans and military spouses, out of its headquarters and in regional offices around the country. Since 2001, the company has added to its stable with premier resources like G.I. Jobs®, Military Friendly®, Military Spouse, Vetrepreneur, Buy Veteran, NaVOBA and STEM Jobs.
“Looking forward, our vision is to continue to help veterans and military families connect with all civilian opportunities — through our Military Friendly® brand—through the expanding set of digital resources we offer,” said McCormack.
The company will celebrate the 15th anniversary milestone with employees on December 12 during a special rewards and recognition event, and at its 2017 kickoff party in January.
