VIF International Education Awards Top Global Educators
Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) June 09, 2015 -- VIF International Education, a global education partner of K-12 schools and districts, recently announced the winners of its 2015 Global Educator Awards. The winning educators come from three different countries and currently teach in two North Carolina counties. In addition to being honored as top international educators, winners received cash awards, global educator digital badges and recognition at their individual schools and on VIF’s learning center. Winners include:
Sonia Ávila (Colombia) - Sun Valley Elementary School, Union County Schools, N.C.
Sharon McAdam (Jamaica) - Clayton Middle School, Johnston County Schools, N.C.
Nichola Turner (United Kingdom) - Porter Ridge Elementary School, Union County Schools, N.C.
As cultural ambassadors, these educators were recognized based on their commitment to teaching global awareness through project-based inquiry (PBI). All award recipients submitted original PBI lesson plans to the VIF learning center to demonstrate how they incorporate global learning into daily instruction.
Nichola Turner was chosen as the top global submission by a committee of VIF subject-matter experts, and is being sponsored by VIF to attend the iEarn Conference and Youth Summit in Brasilia, Brazil in July as a global education professional development experience.
“I was four years old when I realized I just wanted to be a teacher,” Turner said. “I had two dreams: go to America and to teach, and I’ve done them both. I just want to make a difference.”
The winning teachers are just some of the more than 12,000 educators who are involved in VIF’s expanding global education programs. Teachers use VIF’s online professional development and curricular resources to bring global education to their classrooms, driving student achievement and cross-cultural engagement.
“These are the kind of teachers parents want their children to have,” said VIF CEO David Young. “They are actively empowering students and fellow teachers to engage with the world and weave global perspectives into their lessons.”
Teachers around the world can join VIF’s learning center for free at viflearn.com and learn how to effectively integrate global themes into core instruction through ongoing professional development, a robust library of ready-to-use classroom resources and a growing community of educators.
