ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND (PRWEB) December 10, 2014 -- The Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) invites college bowl lovers from across the country to build extra time into their itinerary when they converge on Annapolis to watch the Virginia Tech Hokies kick off against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in the seventh annual Military Bowl® presented by Northrop Grumman, benefiting the USO, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, December 27, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
AAACCVB President and CEO Connie Del Signore says individuals coming to Maryland’s capital city for this year’s game between representatives from the Atlantic Coast and American Athletic conferences should plan to make a weekend of it. “Game-day festivities run from early in the morning to late afternoon. Families can take in all the action by arriving on Friday evening and staying until Sunday. The extra time will give them a chance to explore the city and experience our dining and nightlife. Our Military Bowl® microsite will help point them in the right direction.”
This year’s game day activities kick off at 8:15 a.m. with the first-ever Military Bowl 5K. Runners will start at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and follow a course into downtown Annapolis and back. As the race wraps up, the Military Bowl® Parade will kick off at City Dock at 9:00 a.m.
Back for an encore performance, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales are expected to steal the show once again as the parade makes its way from City Dock, up Main Street, around Church Circle and out Rowe Boulevard en route to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Bands, cheerleaders, mascots, color guards and other performers will accompany the Clydesdales along the parade route. In keeping with the true spirit of the Military Bowl®, several Medal of Honor recipients will be participating in this year’s bowl events. The Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military honor. It is awarded in recognition of personal acts of valor that are above and beyond the call of duty.
The 9:00 a.m. start of the Military Bowl® Parade also marks the launch of tailgate festivities in the Blue Lot on the west side of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 550 Taylor Avenue.
More than 30,000 fans attended the 2013 Military Bowl® matchup between Maryland and Marshall at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Event organizers expect this year’s NCAA Division I showdown will attract similar crowds. Tickets to the game are $20, $50, and $75. They can be purchased at the Military Bowl’s® website.
Over the years, the Military Bowl® has donated more than $400,000 to the United Service Organizations (USO) and distributed more than 20,000 complimentary tickets to active-duty military personnel and their families. This year, the Military Bowl® will be donating at least $100,000 to the USO and distributing thousands of complimentary tickets to troops and their families.
