Visit Pensacola and the Pensacola Sports Association Welcome Colorado Runner Looking for a Three-peat in Pensacola’s Double Bridge Run
Pensacola, Florida (PRWEB) January 29, 2015 -- Nationally known competitive runner Tyler McCandless from Boulder, Colorado, is coming back to Pensacola in hopes of winning, for the third year in a row, the well-know Pensacola Double Bridge Run, presented by Publix.
He’ll be racing in the 15K against nearly 3,000 other runners from 38 states, Canada, and one runner from the Federated State of Micronesia (located in the western Pacific Ocean).
“Odds are, though, he’s going to win it again,” says Jason Libbert, Head Event Manager for the race, which is produced by the Pensacola Sports Association (PSA).
McCandless posted on his personal website that his goal is to win the race again and finish with personal best time under 45:15.
Pensacola is looking forward to having him back along with the hundreds of other competitors who will arrive in the city on the weekend of February 7. The 15K is expected to sell out for the third consecutive year in a row, and the 5K run has few open spots remaining. Libbert says the run’s popularity continues to grow for several reasons.
“We have the prettiest 15K course in the country. You start at the Pensacola Community Maritime Park, run through historic downtown Pensacola, cross over two bridges where blue water is everywhere, and when you get to the top of the second bridge, you can see the beautiful white beaches and the Gulf of Mexico.”
The second bridge, Pensacola’s Bob Sikes Bridge, is close to five stories at its highest point and becomes a prime spot for “selfies.” Libbert says you’ll see runners on top of the bridge with nothing but water and sunshine in the background, snapping pictures of themselves.
In addition to a scenic course, the Pensacola Double Bridge Run is known for the great experience it provides runners from the registration to the post-race party. The post-race party takes place along the entire Portofino Boardwalk of Pensacola Beach and includes red beans and rice from Hemingway’s, drinks, and post-race massages for all race participants.
The run is a huge event for Pensacola Beach and very family-oriented with more than 2,500 friends and family members in addition to the runners expected at the Boardwalk to celebrate, enjoy the live bands, and congratulate the winners.
In addition to all 15K runners receiving a medal, they’ll also receive a free custom Headsweats visor, provided by Zarzaur Law, P.A. The PSA also awards cash prizes to the first three overall finishers for men and women in the 15K.
