Vivian Valtas to Sign Copies of "Stiletto 911: The Makeover Manifesto" to Support Local Crisis Center of South Suburbia
Orland Park, IL (PRWEB) January 14, 2016 -- When Vivian Valtas Schmidt wrote her first novel, “Stiletto 911: The Makeover Manifesto”, her goal was to empower women to propel themselves past their difficult situations. She overcame poverty and domestic violence, through focus and tenacity. Since publishing the book in 2012, Valtas Schmidt has spread her message and dedicated her resources to women and families in need. She continues that mission on January 21, 2016, when she will sign copies of her book to raise money for The Crisis Center for South Suburbia.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., at Palos Health & Fitness Center, 15430 West Avenue, in Orlando Park. Bella Café and Palos Health & Fitness Center are co-sponsoring the event, which also includes a silent auction. All proceeds will be donated to The Crisis Center for South Suburbia, including those from the sale of “Stiletto 911”.
In 35 years, The Crisis Center for South Suburbia has touched 57,000 women and children in Chicago and the southern and southwestern suburbs—victims of domestic violence. The group of 40 staff members and 250 volunteers provide a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, and advocacy
Valtas Schmidt, herself a survivor of domestic violence, became a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. In addition to being a Board member of the Valentine Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, she has supported such non-profit groups as Vincent & Annabella’s Garden, a foundation that provides financial assistance to families dealing with pediatric illnesses.
“I wanted this book to change lives in some way,” says Valtas Schmidt, a wife, mother, and business owner. “I want people to know there’s hope and there’s help.”
Vivian Valtas Schmidt envisioned that her modern-day fable would motivate women to make positive changes in their lives. An entrepreneur who started her first business enterprise at the age of seven (selling pumpkins), Valtas Schmidt puts her life lessons to work in the book. She has blended that knowledge with the lighthearted story of a young woman of privilege who suddenly finds herself without a fiscal safety net. With the help of a 21st century spirit, she tackles the challenge of restarting her life on her own, a journey that Valtas Schmidt can appreciate.
