Voices Against Brain Cancer Celebrates VABC Ambassador’s Book Launch
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Voices Against Brain Cancer, an organization dedicated to brain cancer research and advocacy, congratulates VABC Ambassador David Menasche on the launch of The Priority List, his memoir that discusses his cross-country trip to visit past students while battling brain cancer.
Six years into his ongoing battle with terminal brain cancer, David Menasche was experiencing difficult symptoms: partial blindness, crippling pain, inability to drive or read, memory loss, etc. Brain cancer ultimately left Menasche completely unable to do what he loved - teaching English at Coral Reef High School in Miami, Florida. “I was afraid of losing my purpose in life,” Menasche recalled. “For so long I had lived to teach my students and I couldn’t even do that.”
In search of love, family, gratitude and purpose, Menasche forewent his chemotherapy treatments and embarked on a cross-country trip to visit his past students to find out “what kind of legacy I was leaving and if I had made a difference in their lives.”
In his journey, Menasche traveled to 31 cities in 101 days to meet 75 of his former students. When he returned home to New Orleans, he started to write of his experiences, and ultimately authored The Priority List.
Michael Klipper, Chairman of Voices Against Brain Cancer, an organization dedicated to brain cancer research and advocacy, commends David Menasche for his will to live despite his terminal diagnosis. “David is such an influence to everyone at VABC as well as to all of those who have heard of his story,” he says. “The Priority List is a must-read not only for those in the brain cancer community but for the general public. It really makes you take a step back and think about what is important, which is sometimes thought about too late in life. Congratulations to David, we wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”
VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization’s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.
VABC's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
