Voices.com Voice Talent Performs in Critically Acclaimed UK Production of Fishskin Trousers
London, England (PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- An alumna of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Jessica Carroll recently performed in the critically acclaimed play Fishskin Trousers at the Finborough Theatre in London, England.
The classically-trained actress received a 4 star review from the Guardian and 5 stars from Time Out, with the entire cast, a part of the company, Lubkinfinds, voted a Time Out Critics' Choice.
“Fishskin Trousers was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do,” Jessica, a talented stage, screen, and radio actor, reveals about her recent stint. “The playwright, Liz Kuti, wrote the role of Mab, a 12th Century Suffolk peasant with autism, for me. She writes the most lyrical, beautiful, complex, detailed work; a gift for an actor. With such depth and detail, a huge amount of hard work is required to sink one's teeth in to that character, analyse her, try and relate to her, and then bring the audience to her and her to the audience until they've found truth.”
On top of the complex script and character, the play was a three-hander monologue production, where there was no interaction between Jessica and the other two members of the cast on stage; the actress was linked to her cast members through their respective stories. “Speaking directly to the audience in half hour chunks is terrifying and exhilarating, and seriously challenges you to pull out all the stops vocally, physically, emotionally, and mentally,” explains Jessica, who showcases said artistic brilliance as a voice artist on Voices.com.
An actress at heart, Jessica uses her talent to support her voice over career, which she became interested in while studying at LAMDA, maintaining that is was “a natural progression to push myself in to the world of voice over.” Jessica’s theatre background made the exploration of VO projects a successful one, as she has lent her voice to various campaigns, including those for Orange, Microsoft, and the BBC. “I think the fact that I'm an actor hugely helps my voice over career. Clients benefit because they get a voice artist who knows how to lift a script up off the page believably and truthfully which is what every client wants!”
There are plans for Fishskin Trousers to go to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, New York, Edinburgh and Dublin.
Jessica will be off to Los Angeles in April to do another new play, The Broken Token, with the same company she performed with in Fishskin Trousers, before a London run.
About Jessica Carroll
Jessica is a London-based actress who trained at LAMDA. Theatre credits include Fishskin Trousers at the Finborough, Quirks at the Southwark Playhouse, A Short History Of The Royal Court, directed by Lindsey Turner, and the role of Nina in The Seagull, directed by Ian Rickson for his Masterclass at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Jessica has performed in season 4 of Downton Abbey, as well as Life Begins at Crawley for BBC Radio 4.
Jessica has a diverse voice over career, which includes her role as the American voice of the Vaseline Total Moisture adverts in the USA. She has voiced everything from adverts for Orange, Microsoft, and Glitter Bingo, to documentaries, leads in various videogames, ADR for ITV and BBC, and an extensive number of business and e-learning projects. Jessica was also a finalist in the 2011 Carleton Hobbs BBC Radio Competition where she received a “Highly Commended.”
