Volunteer Call to Action: Growing AchieveHERs Group Hosts Forum to Build Local Influence
Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) March 12, 2015 -- The Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce’s professional women’s group, the AchieveHERs, has been experiencing steadfast growth – so much so that the group held a volunteer call to action in late January where 40 women convened to dedicate their time and talents to the organization in the areas of administration, event planning, promotion and marketing, sponsorship and finance and recruitment.
According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the nearly 8 billion hours that Americans volunteered in 2011 were worth over $170 billion. And more recent data from the Labor Department shows that women continued a long-standing trend of volunteering more than men— with nearly 30 percent of women volunteering in their free time. (1)
Members of AchieveHERs present at the event represented all sizes and types of businesses – representatives from local large businesses SmartSat and Clearwater Gas were present, as well as small business entrepreneurs like Shop Fresh Threads and Decker Ross Interiors. For Brigitta Johnson, Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the forum allowed for a frank discussion amongst like-minded women.
“As someone who works in a male-dominated field, it’s been a blessing to talk and troubleshoot with area businesswomen who have been through the same challenges I’m facing in my career. It’s something I am proud to be a part of, you know, hopefully helping give back to the next generation of professional woman,” commented Johnson.
The meeting was held at JoTo PR offices, a national public relations agency based in downtown Clearwater, Florida. JoTo’s CEO Karla Jo Helms is the current Chair of AchieveHERs and maintains that the group’s growing leadership is a boon to Tampa Bay businesswomen.
