OMAHA, Neb. (PRWEB) July 13, 2015 -- Volunteers are critical to the success of the 29th Annual National Veterans Golden Age Games, being held in Omaha, Neb., Aug. 8 – 12. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has only about a third of the more than 2,000 volunteers needed to support the largest national Veterans sporting event in the country.
Volunteers can assist for several hours on one day or multiple events and days during the competition. However, to successfully meet all of the needs for the various volunteer opportunities before and during the event, VA is asking people to consider signing up for a position or positions that best fit their talents.
Several thousand opportunities are available to help with everything from sporting events to meal service. Events take place at the CenturyLink Center, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Burke High School, Mockingbird Lanes and Dodge Riverside Park. Opportunities are also available to assist at the Eppley airport and downtown Omaha hotels.
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the volunteer shift. VA encourages volunteers to sign up by Aug. 1 at http://www.veteransgoldenagegames.va.gov.
More than 800 athletes are enrolled to compete in the national multi-event sports and recreational competition for senior Veterans. The event encourages participants to make physical activity a central part of their lives, and supports VA’s comprehensive recreation and rehabilitation therapy programs. Competitive events include air rifle, badminton, bowling, cycling, dominoes, field, golf, horseshoes, nine ball, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis and track.
