Vygon (UK) Ltd gets ‘Highly Commended’ for Improving Patient Pathway
Swindon, UK (PRWEB UK) 31 January 2014 -- The Highly Commended accolade has come from the Excellence in Supply Awards 2013. Vygon was judged by the North West Procurement Development in the category Improving the Patient Pathway in the Adult Acute Service.
To win the Highly Commended award Vygon had to show they had provided, or improved goods or services to NHS Trusts in the North West and had enhanced patient care in Adult Acute Services, while also delivering commercial benefit.
Judging criteria listed commercial benefit as those that can be assessed as quantifiable in terms of reduced whole life product costs, reduced length of patient stay and improved efficiency in theatres.
Vygon worked closely with a North West NHS Trust to develop a VYSET custom arterial pack that helped them streamline their procedure in line with national guidelines Epic2 and Matching Michigan.
Working with ITU and A&E departments, Vygon also examined the Trust’s existing practice and policies around arterial line insertion. To improve the service Vygon created a custom pack to suit the Trust’s needs, enabling them to standardise their practice and improve patient outcomes.
Working alongside the Trust’s Procurement Department, Vygon analysed its existing practice and calculated how the VYSET custom pack could save the Trust time and money. By using the VYSET pack the Trust saved £7 per procedure - approximately £23,000 each year - based on current usage. In addition, the VYSET pack saved staff as much as 20 minutes per patient, as individual components were all available in the pack and didn’t need sourcing from different locations.
The pack is now being used in all the Trust’s adult critical care services including Theatres, maternity, HDU and CCU.
David Seddon from Vygon said: “The VYSET pack is a prime example of what can be achieved by working in partnership with us. Together we have created something that has benefits for the patient, the medical teams and financially, for the Trust as a whole. Not only is there a straight cost-saving, but nursing time is also reduced and above all, the care provided to the patient is enhanced.”
