Wacky Weekday Promotion Saves Lives at the Stockton Animal Shelter
Stockton, CA (PRWEB) July 15, 2014 -- Who says you have to wait until the weekend to have some fun? The Stockton Animal Shelter and its rescue partner, Animal Protection League, are adding some treats to your work week with the Wacky Weekday promotion. From July to end of August, Monday through Friday, applicable breeds and ages will have fee-waived adoptions thanks to a generous anonymous donor!
As a contestant in the 2014 ASPCA® Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, the ultimate goal is saving more animals than ever before. The challenge is a nationwide competition featuring 50 animal shelters and their communities competing for a chance at more than $600,000 in grant funding, including a $100,000 grand prize. Thanks to the support of the Stockton community, transfer partners, shelter staff, and volunteers, the Stockton Animal Shelter has saved over 1,000 animals since June 1st!
With the Wacky Weekday promotion, Stockton Animal Shelter hopes to entice potential adopters to bring home a new furry friend and to get the word out about their winning chance at the national ASPCA competition. Adoption fees will be waived for certain animals based on the day of the week:
• Mixed Breed Mondays – all mixed breed dogs
• Terrific Pit Bull Tuesdays - all pit bulls & pit bull mixes
• Witty Adult Wednesdays - all adult (6+ months) cats and dogs
• Talented Chihuahua Thursdays - all Chihuahuas & Chihuahua mixes
• Fancy Feline Friday - all kittens and cats
“With a special promotion every day of the week, we are able to focus on the animals in most need of finding a home,” says Tammie Murrell, interim manager at the Stockton Animal Shelter. “Pit bulls and Chihuahuas have always outnumbered other types of dogs at our shelter, but by including mixed breeds, adults, and felines in this promotion, we open up the door to other animals that also have long length of stay.”
The Stockton Animal Shelter saw the success of holding adoption promotions this past 4th of July weekend with their “Red, White, and BULLS” event. Highlighting the loving, loyal, and heroic pit bull breed, all bully breeds 5 months and over were free. They kept the freedom weekend going by also holding a “48 kittens in 48 hours” promotion – free kittens on Friday and Saturday. This brought in hundreds of potential adopters and in the end, the Stockton Animal Shelter beat its adoption record with 69 adoptions (32 canine and 37 feline) in three days! The previous adoption record was 60 adoptions in one month.
The Stockton Animal Shelter hopes to beat another adoption record with the Wacky Weekday promotion. In fact, expect to see more adoption promotions and events in the coming summer weeks!

While the adoption fee is free, the Stockton Animal Shelter still requires potential adopters to undergo the same rigorous approval process to ensure the animals are rescued by a fitting individual or family.
