Wading through a world of distractions to find God
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (PRWEB) November 17, 2014 -- When G. Jack Wren was just 11 years old he remembers shocking wheat with his dad on a particularly hot summer day. As one could imagine, it was all the young boy could do to focus on the task at hand in such miserable conditions. However, Wren remembers the exact words his dad said to him: “Forget about the sweat bees, the hot sun and the itching wheat heads, just shock the wheat.”
Wren took this statement and applied it to Christianity in his new book, “Shock the Wheat,” where he talks about his journey to becoming a pastor and how to focus on the most important parts of discipleship.
“My greatest joy and highest honor is that God appointed me to serve Jesus as a minister of the gospel,” Wren said. “The Christian life is filled with many distractions, but there is one essential truth. Jesus is the way to the Heavenly Father’s house. As Jesus leads us home, he will help us introduce him to people who have never known him.”
Wren, who has pastored multiple churches across several states over the past 50 years, hopes “Shock the Wheat” will have the widest possible exposure so it can be used to light a fire in Christians and challenge churches to reach out to the unsaved.
“It is intended to encourage others to expect God’s presence in every life situation, and to be aware that God uses these divinely created teachable moments to reveal more of his loving nature,” Wren said. “God is present in the crisis of life, and uses our times of sorrow, pain, or disaster to reveal his loving nature.”

G. Jack Wren is a native of Kentucky and graduate of Southern Seminary. For more than 50 years he served as pastor in churches in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas.
