Warp 2, Structural Painting Creating a Sense of Wonder and Curiosity
Golden, Colorado (PRWEB) August 05, 2015 -- Kanon Collective located in Denver’s Santa Fe Art District is pleased to present Warp 2, a solo exhibition of new work by Anna Cash-Mitchell. Warp 2 is Anna’s latest adventure in what defines her as an artist. The show reimagines the traditional flat rectangular canvas as sculpture, full of dimension and movement.
The artist notes, "The one thing I hope you find in my structural paintings is a sense of wonder and curiosity. It’s that same inquisitive nature that compels me to see what I can create. I truly enjoy challenging puzzles, and building these pieces has definitely been a fun challenge."
Further, "The creation of each piece starts with a sketch inspired by an intriguing shape or movement. With the sketch in play, I collaborate with orthweststudios.com to build the wooden support structure. Once we have a working frame I sometimes sew and then stretch the canvas."
Like Helen Frankenthaler, Anna prefers to use the paint as stain, skipping the gesso and allowing the canvas to soak in the color, which reveals the texture of the heavy cotton cloth. Many of the show’s paintings use visual holes to organically reveal the layers of pigment underneath. The holes sometimes mimic the structure of the paintings themeless, creating a unifying theme throughout her work.
Warp 2 will be showing at Kanon Collective on 766 Santa Fe Drive in Denver Colorado during the month of August. Meet the Artist during the opening reception First Friday August 7 from 6-10 or the artist reception Friday August 21 from 6-9.
