Watson Inc. Introduces New Solution for Oral Dose Tablet Identification
West Haven, CT (PRWEB) August 27, 2015 -- Watson Inc. introduced a new application for their line of Edible Glitter™ inclusions. Edible Glitter™ can be incorporated into a tablet for oral dosage of supplements. The Edible Glitter™ creates a unique appearance in the tablet. In order to make Edible Glitter™ suitable for use in tablets, a new formulation now called DC Edible Glitter™ was developed. DC Edible Glitter™ will not affect tablet hardness or friability or cause capping. DC Edible Glitter™ was specialty formulated for the tableting process and will not negatively impact any of the qualities of the finished tablet.
Edible Glitter™ can be effective in helping consumers identify tablets that would otherwise look similar. “My mother takes several tablets every morning,” stated Moira Watson, Vice President of Marketing and Communication at Watson. “Three of the tablets she takes every morning are small, round, and white, and they all look almost exactly the same. Each week she pre-loads a 7-day pill box with each day’s tablets. If one tablet falls on the floor when she is taking her morning medications, she has a hard time determining which pill needs to be replaced.”
Edible Glitter™ would solve this problem by changing a tablet’s appearance to make it more identifiable. The resulting appearance is a tablet with flecks of color throughout. The amount of glitter used can be varied depending on the desired appearance of the tablet.
Another benefit of the use of Edible Glitter™ in tablets is that the resulting tablet would be more difficult for counterfeiters to replicate. Applications include directly compressible tablets, chewable tablets, and quick dissolving oral tablets. For uncoated or clear coated tablets, Edible Glitter™ can be incorporated into the tablet directly by mixing into the tablet granulation prior to tableting. Alternatively, Edible Glitter can be incorporated into the tablet coating.
