Wayne Homes Employees Volunteer During Project Homeless Connect
Uniontown, OH (PRWEB) September 16, 2013 -- Employees of Ohio-based custom home builder Wayne Homes recently participated in Project Homeless Connect, a one-day event to benefit families in need in Stark County. The event, which was held on August 22, was created to offer assistance to families who are at risk of becoming homeless, are currently homeless, or have recently transitioned into housing after being homeless.
The event was a collaboration between city and private organizations to provide a comprehensive list of services and resources for families and individuals in need. Individuals met one-on-one with volunteers to discuss their situation and current needs. A total of 194 adults, 19 children, and 16 veterans received assistance during the event.
“I enjoyed Project Homeless Connect so much! Just being able to listen to people talk about their life and what they were hoping to get out of that day was great. Every story I heard truly touched me. Just knowing that I could be there to help out in any way was truly an awesome feeling,” said Sherry Schaadt, Wayne Homes Executive Assistant to the VP of Organizational Development.
During the event, organizations provided resources for healthcare information, drug counseling, haircuts, and additional services. Each person who attended received a kit of essentials including socks, deodorant, and a toothbrush. Lunch was also provided.
Employees of Wayne Homes volunteered during work hours as part of the company’s Random Acts of Kindness program. Through the Random Acts of Kindness program, employees are encouraged to contribute in the community where they live and work.
“To be in a situation where you are able to extend support to many people at once who are in desperate need can be very fulfilling,” said New Home Consultant Aleah Shrigley.

A total of 15 Wayne Homes employees volunteered during the event, including Mike Leckie-Ewing, Keith Drollinger, Stephanie Yates, Stephanie Clapper, Megan Moncrief, Sherry Schaadt, Kim Hamrick, Laurie Kyser, Brittany Burkhardt, Jason Fortune, Bill Boyd, Kathy Pierson, Aleah Shrigley, Beth Brigeman and Kristi Eynon. According to volunteer Stephanie Clapper, the one-day event has inspired an ongoing commitment to the program.
“Getting involved with PHC was beyond rewarding. Our Random Acts of Kindness day at this organization will hopefully be the beginning of my involvement with this. I hope to continue on and really make a difference with PHC,” said Clapper.
