WB Surf Camp Founder to Give Keynote Address at Alopeciapalooza 2018
WILMINGTON, N.C. (PRWEB) August 11, 2018 -- Alopeciapalooza 2018 at Pine Cove Ranch in Flint, TX from August 13 – 16th will include a keynote address from WB Surf Camp Founder, Rick Civelli on the opening night of the event. Presented by the Children’s Alopecia Project, Alopeciapalooza gathers children with Alopecia and their families for education, support, and most importantly FUN, as part of their mission: “To help any child in need who is living with hair loss due to all forms of Alopecia. We change the emphasis from growing hair to growing confidence. Building self-esteem, providing support and raising awareness.”
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition that results in hair loss on the scalp and can progress to complete hair loss throughout the body. There is currently no known cure for this condition that affects over 5 million people in the United States. Although Alopecia Areata is not life threatening, it is life altering to the people and families affected.
Civelli, who was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata when he was 17, will focus his talk on encouraging kids to not hide from their condition, but to face this adversity and use the strengths that come with this acceptance to follow their life’s dreams and achieve their goals. Called “Alopecia is a superpower! How to harness it to live an extraordinary life”, Civelli hopes his speech will help children at the event gain the confidence to go after their dreams.
Civelli’s life, and life’s work are evidence of the power of facing fears head on. "I lost the majority of my head hair in less than a week, but as a passionate surfer I had to get back in the ocean. I shaved my head, as I’ve done almost every day since, because nothing can keep a surfer out of the water,” says Civelli.
That love of surfing helped him handle this new challenge, and ultimately led to a successful career when he Founded WB Surf Camp. Based in Wilmington, North Carolina WB Surf Camp is one of the Nation’s premier providers of surf instruction, offering lessons, day and overnight camps, and surf vacations around the world for kids, teens, and adults.
Civelli also uses surfing as another way to give back to the Alopecia community, running several Charity Aloha Surf Camps, which gives individuals and families affected by Alopecia Areata an opportunity to learn to surf from experienced instructors completely free of charge. These camps harness the amazing confidence building that comes with surfing and the healing powers of the ocean.
